# Work offline and sync when you get signal

## Steps

1. Install WorkSkedge to the home screen: Add to Home Screen in Safari on iOS, or the install prompt in Chrome on Android.
2. While you still have signal, open the app and visit the work orders you will be working on.
3. Check the badge on My Tasks - it should read Ready for offline with a work order count above 0.
4. On site with no signal, work as normal: view My Schedule, update the scope, file reports with photos and enter time.
5. When signal returns, leave the app open for a moment - the queued changes sync in the background.
6. Confirm the entries appear as submitted once you are back online.

## Install it first

Offline support depends on the app being installed and having cached data before you lose signal.

- **iOS** - open the site in Safari and use Add to Home Screen.
- **Android** - accept the install prompt in Chrome, or use Add to Home Screen.
- **Desktop** - install from Chrome, Edge or any modern browser.

Then open the app while you still have a connection and visit the jobs you will be working on. The badge on **My Tasks** tells you how many work orders are cached - *Ready for offline - N work orders cached*. If it reads 0, nothing has been pre-cached yet.

## What works with no signal

**Fully offline - create and submit**

- My Schedule: view assigned work orders and the day's schedule
- Daily progress reports
- Completion reports, photos included
- Timesheet entries
- Scope of work: view and update task completion

**Read-only offline** - work order details (only those cached while online), project information and customer information.

**Needs a connection** - creating new work orders, self-assignment, admin and management screens, dashboards and analytics, settings changes, and user management.

## How syncing works

1. While online the app pre-caches work orders, schedules and reference data.
2. Changes you make offline are stored on the device.
3. Those changes queue automatically.
4. When connectivity returns, the queue syncs in the background.
5. Conflicting edits made at the same time are resolved automatically.

## Notes and limits

- Open each job while you still have signal - a work order you never opened online will not be available on site.
- Keep the app open long enough after regaining signal for the queue to drain before signing out or clearing browser data.
- Anything on the requires-online list will simply not be available in a dead zone; plan self-assignment and scheduling changes before you leave coverage.

### What can my crew actually do with no signal?

View My Schedule, update scope of work task completion, create and submit daily progress and completion reports including photos, and enter and edit timesheets. Work order, project and customer details are readable if they were cached while online.

### What does not work offline?

Creating new work orders, self-assignment, admin and management features, dashboards and analytics, settings changes and user management.

### Do I have to install the app for offline to work?

Install it and open the jobs while online. Installing plus pre-caching is what makes the data available in a dead zone.

### How do I know data is cached?

The badge on My Tasks reads Ready for offline with the number of work orders cached. If it shows 0, open the jobs you need while you still have signal.

### What happens if someone else edits the same record while I am offline?

The sync applies conflict resolution when your queued changes upload, so simultaneous edits are handled rather than silently overwriting each other.

### Will I lose my work if I close the app before syncing?

Changes are stored on the device and queue until they sync, so closing the app is fine. Avoid clearing site data or signing out before the queue has drained.
